Lightweight, but still loaded

MX-5’s cabin heightens your connection to a great drive. Settle into the sports seats and you’ll enjoy superb comfort and support. Pedals, gearshift and adjustable steering wheel feel like extensions of your body, while sports instruments convey information clearly. MX-5 treats you to quality craftsmanship complemented by premium materials and textures. Low noise levels enhance the sense of refinement.

The user-friendly interior offers generous storage and handy features like an auxiliary jack for MP3 players. A specially designed ‘Windblocker’ aero board and quarter windows minimise air turbulence in the cabin. And all-weather comfort is ensured, with extra ventilation louvres in the footwells and at waist height. The six-disc CD player and AM/FM tuner features steering wheel-mounted controls. They link you to the superb sound of a premium Bose® amplifier incorporating seven speakers. But the indulgence doesn’t stop there, as Roadster Coupe and Soft-top Touring also give you rich leather* upholstery.

And away we go

Turn the key in an MX-5 and it’s you who’ll get fired up. Its 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine with Sequential Valve Timing (S-VT) responds eagerly with smooth power and a rousing exhaust note. In manual models a forged steel crankshaft lets you rev right up to 7,500 rpm, taking excitement levels even higher.

Featuring lightweight aluminium construction the engine sits as close as possible to the car’s centre, enhancing balance and handling. MX-5’s transmissions are also geared to excite. The 6-speed manual shifts with quick, short-throw precision. The 6-speed Activematic lets you take manual control through steering wheel-mounted shift paddles, or enjoy automatic ease. In auto mode you’ll still feel connected, as Direct Activematic (DAM) function lets you make instant manual downshifts via the paddles. So acceleration for overtaking or exiting corners is always at hand.

One turn and there's no going back

You haven’t taken a corner until you’ve done it in an MX-5. With amazing agility combined with perfect weight balance, it reacts to your commands as if by intuition. And in this MX-5 the intimate connection between car and driver has been made stronger. The entire suspension system has been carefully retuned, while the front roll centre height has been reduced.

So MX-5 follows your steering inputs with uncanny accuracy and feels even more planted on the road. And while this faithful handling will give you confidence, standard Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) will enhance it. Working with the 4-wheel ABS, this advanced system manages engine power and braking force to maintain control, even on slippery roads. In MX-5 you’ll take every corner with a smile on your face.

Handle the unexpected

The same close connection between car and driver that makes MX-5 great to drive helps you avoid potential trouble. But it’s good to know you’re protected by the latest safety technologies. High-strength materials reinforce the rigidity of the body structure. This augments the protection of the Mazda Advanced Impact Distribution and Absorption System (MAIDAS), which absorbs and redirects impact energy away from the occupant cell. Seatbelts have pre-tensioners and load-limiting retractors.

The two front airbags are complemented by two double-chamber side airbags that offer head and chest protection. Even pedestrian safety is taken into account, the aluminium bonnet being designed to minimise potential injury. There’s also impressive theft protection, with remote control central locking and an engine immobiliser. As a precisely engineered vehicle, MX-5 deserves the best of care.
